The eastern end of Sumbawa is very dry, rain shadow effect, and I am sure the locals are concerned about the effect of mining on any water tables. i wouldn't say radical or fanatical, but strong emotions evident in the locals. Also, quite a history in Sumbawa now regarding protesting mining activities.
The fact that they haven't even drilled a hole and the mobs are trashing the local government building and cars is not a good sign that this will end well IMO.
