    Hello to all,
...and, regardless of market detours, dead ends and cul de sacs, there’s more infrastructure work on the way for WA with six pending road projects now to be fast-tracked so as to grow the WA economy.

..And there is another infrastructure story which may become relevant to NRW from today [here ], replying to@Pioupiou ’s post [here]  but I can’t post it on this thread now because that ship has sailed... and as they say in Poland; "musztarda po obiedzie” [or according to Reader’s Digest], you don’t serve “mustard after lunch ”.

    cheers

State and Federal governments sign off on $223 million COVID-19 roads and jobs recovery plan for WA

The State and Federal governments have signed off on a $223 million COVID-19 recovery plan for Western Australia, with dozens of road projects now brought forward to this year.

The projects will create more than 1000 jobs during construction — vital to WA with its unemployment rate surging to 8.1 per cent in May, the worst in the country.

The Commonwealth will provide $176m and the WA Government $47m to fast-track six road projects in areas like Exmouth, the South West, Toodyay and Perth.

The works include converting 17km of road along Bussell Highway, which connects Busselton and Bunbury, from a single carriageway to a dual carriageway as well as improvements to Thomas Road between Kwinana Freeway and Nicholson Road.

The money will also pay for the first year of a nine-year regional road safety improvement program which will widen, seal or install audio-tactile line markings on 1400km of 20 regional routes including Great Northern Highway, Eyre Highway, Victoria Highway, Great Eastern Highway and North West Coastal Highway.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann said the $223m investment in WA infrastructure was part of a plan to “grow the West Australian economy on the other side of the COVID-19 crisis”.

“We want to guarantee work for local trades and keep money flowing through local businesses through the construction phase and beyond,” Senator Cormann said.

The infrastructure announcement follows worrying figures this week which showed the number of unemployed West Australians had grown to more than 112,000 because of the coronavirus crisis.

The Prime Minister said partnering with WA and other States and Territories was a key plan to rebuild the local and national economy. “This funding injection means we have brought forward or provided additional funding in excess of $1 billion to Western Australia in the past eight months,” Scott Morrison said.

Mark McGowan and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the WA Government had lobbied the Commonwealth in March to fast-track the projects to help combat the economic fall-out from COVID-19.

“When COVID-19 started to really hit WA back in March, we wrote to the Federal Government outlining what shovel-ready projects we could work together on to help support our economy,” the Premier said.
“We always knew the economic impacts of the virus was going to be nothing like we had seen before.

“This new agreement with the Federal Government means we can get WA businesses working on new projects straight away.

“These projects will create local jobs and play an important role in driving more economic activity as we come out of COVID restrictions.”
