Steel fabricator Civmec has won $165 million worth of work with Rio Tinto as part of the mining giant’s Robe Valley sustaining iron ore project in the Pilbara.
The package comprises the supply, fabrication, modularisation, transportation, erection, modification, installation and commissioning of structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation, and communication work for the Mesa A Wet Plant.
Components include screening, surge bin and scrubbing facilities and associated conveyor systems, transfer towers, sub stations and all piping and cabling, including trenching for underground services.
The broader Robe Valley sustaining project includes the development of three new mining deposits and the construction of supporting infrastructure required to continue operations of the two existing operational hubs at Mesa A and Mesa J.
Civmec chief executive Patrick Tallon said Rio Tinto had always been a good client and he was pleased to have secured another opportunity to partner with them again.
The steel fabrication will be undertaken at Civmec’s Henderson facility, employing about 200 people with work beginning within weeks.
Civmec said the on-site structural, mechanical and piping component would require about 240 people to mobilise to site at the peak of the project in the latter part of the year.
About 100 workers would be required for the electrical component early next year.
Civmec said its order book stood at about $895 million.
ASX-listed shares in the company closed down 1¢ at 39¢.
