Fair comment, not all cobalt out of the DRC is unethical, but the unethical stuff is difficult to separate from the ethical stuff and the unethical cobalt is also sold at a discount making it more difficult to compete. The article just outlines that BMW is taking concrete steps to verify the supply chain through block chain technology and my point is that if more manufacturers tighten up their supply chains, the discounted stuff will go by the wayside making it a fair playing field for all which is all we want. I have read that Apple have taken steps through auditing supply chains, but I have also read that the audits are not exactly watertight. The BMW plan will make it possible to track the cobalt all the way to the source which will be a vast improvement to verify where it comes from and that might go a long way to improve practices.
