It's just a circus they put on to distract the market from what they really need.
See, the problem with the SVOLT battery is that if nothing else, it highlights the folly of chasing zero cobalt batteries from a purely financial vs quality of product standpoint. On the one extreme, you've got LFP batteries... Zero cobalt, cheapest alternative, Crap energy density. Then you've got this "new" SVOLT battery: zero cobalt, better energy density, more expensive than LFP. Worse still, it's patented technology... So instead of child labour, you now have the possibility of a complete Chinese monopoly of the battery industry. All for the same financial position vs quality of product.
With the price of the material so cheap now, I'm really not surprised Tesla made a move to get more of it.
