The indonesians are serious about clamping down on illegal tin mining .The ramifications for Kobatin that they risk being shut down by authorities if proven guilty .This is not the first time Kobatin has been embroiled in controversy over illegal tin mining .At the very least these companies will be aware that illegal tin mining or even accepting illegally mined tin could result in jail terms .They will be very cautious about this in the future .

PT Kobatin allegedly accepting illegal tin
Pangkalpinang, (ANTARA News) - PT Kobatin, biggest tin mining company in Bangka Belitung (Babel), had been reportedly accepting illegal tin in the area.
"Kobatan had been allegedly accepting illegal tin in the area from smallholder or inconventional tin mining companies in the area," member of the legal, human rights and security affairs Commission of the House of Representatives Fahri Hamzah said in Pangkalpinang on Monday.
He said the suspicion was based on the result of a field survey and information from certain sources. To prove the allegations, further and more intensive investigations would be conducted.
"The official visit is aimed at responding to various problems with regard to the tin business in Babel, and to enable us to make a cross check in the field," the lawmaker said.
He added that a number of companies in the area were also suspected to have been playing `games` with big financiers in Jakarta, including PT Kobatin.
"The regional administration only deal with smallholder and inconventional mining companies in trying to bring order to the tin business in Babel. But these illegal business dealings need to be eradiated once and for all," he said.
The regional administration and the police need to more serious in dealing with these illegal tin trading activities in Babel.
"We have also met Babel police authorities and discussed the problem, and asked them to take firm action against illegal tin trading in the area involving a number of tin mining companies," he said.(*)
