    depends - you can set a contract up however one likes but normally it is done on tonnes ore per kilometer. There may or may not be other performance based parameters involved as well as you don't want your contract miner to mine subeconomic material for the sake of meeting their tonnage targets. That is one of the advantages to operating yourself.
