Director's indemnity insurance is standard practice, if not semi-regulated for ASX-listed companies via their account's auditors. I've been an investor in IMF for many years and am pretty familiar with the process. One thing which will never be revealed by the company is level of insurance cover, for obvious reasons.
A few big boys have lost decent money here including Regal and ex-Macquarie boss. During the peak, AXP was valued over 300M or so.
