The proliferation of private schools has included the establishment of schools for specific religious groups & for immigrants from specific countries. It is segregating students on the basis of race, religion, wealth & place of origin.
Australia now boasts Islamic schools, Catholic schools, Jewish schools, schools for Iranians, schools for Greeks, ...
Increasingly people are living as enclaves in our suburbs, with the consequent development of misunderstanding, intolerance, ignorance, rivalries & jealousies between them which is manifesting itself on our streets.
People need to be aware that our universal melting pot is no more. It's now just a romantic memory of the baby-boomer generation.
We may well see the excesses of racial intolerance, religious conflicts & national rivalries erupt in our very own suburbs.
The root cause of which has been government funding of 'private schools'.
