Thanks for your detailed response Peter.
My comment was in reference to this (I will withhold the name of the poster, you probably have them on ignore):

Is SAS really going to be competitive in the MTM space against the current and future competition. If so how ??
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> sorry, but with some 63 different Acronyms of MTM, (http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/MTM) which one are you referring to? If you are referring to Multimedia Terminal Mobile, please tell me who the current ‘competition’ is. I’d also be delighted to know who the future competition is! I am not naïve enough to suggest there won’t be any competition in the future, but as far as I can see, today, there simply is none! Times change fast “Machine To Machine’ was not one of the 63 mentioned. If your poster is referring to “Machine to Machine” , that is not the SAS market. Machine To Machine is ‘data’ transfer – not voice transfer.

    https://www.orbcomm.com/en/networks/satellite
ORBCOMM operates the world's first and only commercial satellite network 100% dedicated to M2M, providing two-way data communications in the most remote areas of the world via a network of low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites and ground stations around the world.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>> as above, there is a big difference between ‘data’ transmission and ‘voice’ transmission. The big difference is ‘latency’. If you want an intelligent conversation with someone you need very low latency. You need to hear people (almost) instantly as if they are standing in front of you. This is not so important with ‘data’ transfer. Any ‘MTM’ service I have heard of refers to data transfer. No mention of voice conversation.

Inmarsat really is powering the Internet of Everywhere and together with its partners.
    >>>>>>Good on them. I take my hat off to them. We are not about ‘Internet’……….. yet. We are about voice & data, connecting those who currently can’t afford a satellite ‘phone’ and ongoing costs of approximately $1.31 per minute and $0.66 per SMS.

Real-Time Fixed and Mobile IP Satellite Communications

The following is quoted from their website……………

ViaSat L-band Managed Services meets the need for real-time position tracking, managing remote assets and operations, and visibility into critical areas of the supply chain. Use our high-performance M2M terminals for a broad range of applications including emergency responders, oil and gas pipeline monitoring, mobile fleet management, and high-value asset tracking.”
    >>>>>>>>>>>>.. where is the ‘Voice 2 Voice’ component? There is none! This (ViaSat) and the above (Inmarsat), from what I can gather, is mainly ‘data’ only. I understand Inmarsat does have a highly priced voice communication option. Oh, by the way, SAS does all that is mentioned above, as well as V2V.

The poster referenced 'dozens of companies' in a follow up post.
    >>>>>>>>>>> get your poster to name one out of the ‘dozens’ that has low latency ‘voice 2 voice’ as a standard offering and if so, at a rate that is 70c/min or less i.e. ‘affordable’ to users – 'anytime, anywhere'. I venture to say, your poster has done scant research and has no skin in the nanosat game.

A quick word on ‘latency’ . Latency is related to the processing speed of the satellite. SAS nanosats will be in a Low Earth Orbit at an altitude of 500 – 800Km, Inmarsat satellites are in a geostationary orbit of 35,786Km - http://www.inmarsat.com/about-us/our-satellites/

Low Earth Orbit (LEO)-400km to 2000km, above earth surface (sea level)-5-10milliseconds transmission delay

Medium Earth Orbit (MEO)- 2000km to 36,786km, above earth surface-30-100milliseconds transmission delay

Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO)-Above 36,786 km, above earth surface-around 250 milliseconds transmission delay

PS – by the way, some nice finds in your post ‘GoldRush101’
