In addition to the national winner, the top 30 semi-finalists are vying to win specific Industry Awards will be given on the night in key sectors including Mining, Manufacturing, Food and Beverage and the Built Environment. These awards are supported by some of Australia’s leading industry associations and corporates.
The judges had the hard task of assessing business plans from each of the 30 Semi Finalists with the aim of short listing those that have the 'greatest potential' to be a commercial success and thereby facilitate the greatest environmental benefits.
The Competition is principally supported by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education, and sponsored by Autodesk, with individual Industry Awards being sponsored by Dairy Australia and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
The Australian Winner will represent the country in the Global Clean Technology Ideas Competition in November. In addition, the Winners and others in the Top 30 will attend a trade mission to Hong Kong, China and Singapore to meet with potential partners, customers and investors and develop their export market.
The Winners from 2011 and 2012 both reported significant commercial benefits from the exposure and gravitas created from the competition win. The 2011 winner, SMAC, secured over 90 contracts in Asia, USA and Sydney CBD, and in 2012 Enlighten has reported a 150% increase in incremental revenue.
