An analogy would be wanting to make a trade of a large number of shares in a stock that was lightly traded. This has happened to me, whereupon I was advised by my broker that I couldn't sell the stock down to effect the sale - it was considered a manipulation.
Shorters just use a slow and steady, low volume approach to achieve the same result in what is considered a legitimate exercise. If you keep meeting the buys at their price, you can gradually take them out and move the price down. It is a manipulation in terms of the definition I previously related. It may seem "delusional" to you, but it is what is happening - and all forces are natural.
