Nuttsie,
More people will wind up up in hospital if we slip into recession and then a depression.
What did Howard and the libs do for our sick hospital system even during boom time. Let me tell you zilch, except make a promise in one marginal seat to keep the Mersey Hospital going to try and buy the election. All the other hospitals around the country didnt matter. What didnt get fixed in over 10 years by the Howard/Costello team cant be fixed overnight. In a Senate committee hearing today the Treasury head Hendry who was a Howard/Costello appointee told the committee when posed with a similar question to yours that the stimulus is addressing things in the main that can be implemented relatively quickly whereas the other issues such as hospitals can be dealt with through normal processes.
Nuttsie, if it was technically possible to fix the hospitals instantly I would be more than happy to pay a special levy to accomodate it but its not that simple as evidenced by Howard/Costello not being able to fix in ten years when they had plenty of dough due to boom times. Now just because I have been able to remind you about the Howard/Costello era in relation to hospitals please dont come back with a retort that it was a State responsibility. Because if you do that I will respond that why should Howard/Costello not have fixed the problem if you expect Kevin Rudd to do so. Lets be reasonable.
cheers
