Yes, when 10 yrs of age I observed next door neighbour doing that - my Dad had to step in at that moment. A horrendous happening over about a 1 hour period. Left me ill - to see such preached today (a form of hate but probably argued as love) brings it all back and it is largely ignored by so many.
