According to its proponents, the Orwellian-named Inflation Reduction Act will cut CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030. Bear in mind that we believe this reduction is neither achievable nor wise.
We were curious as to how much warming would be averted by a 40% US reduction. We used theModel for the Assessment of Greenhouse-gas Induced Emissions(MAGICC) simulator* to estimate that number. We assumed a climate sensitivity of 3.0 (about 3x the warming that our experts predict) and found that only 0.021 degrees Celsius of warming would be averted. That is barely distinguishable from zero and below our ability to even measure, yet our leaders have decided that spending more than 300 billion dollars to solve a non-existent crisis is a wise use of our tax dollars.
