Higher lows and long term MA is maintaining trend.
If you are a stock punter you buy now at the bottom of the uptrend. Probability is in your favour the trend continues. However if there is a trend reversal, i.e. lower lows then you stop out. From a stock chartists POV all the data is equally significant and the late 90's peak is an outlier that modifies the MA. From a denialists POV it is the most significant data in the whole chart, against which all other data is measured.
