    Climate Change and the War of the Worlds

    This thread uses the classic album the War of the Worlds featuring a fictional Martian attack as a way to bring home the reactions of humanity to the non-fictional threat of climate change.

    The idea is that when confronted with an existential threat humans react is a range of ways and the sense of horror is real.

    The War of the Worlds starts off with:

    No one would have believed, in the last years of the nineteenth century that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space.

    No one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinized, as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets and yet,across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this Earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us.

    The music and lyrics give the fictional story of a Martian attack life and the tracks are IMO worth listening to.

    The climate change parallel is something like;

    No one would have believed that at the start of the industrial revolution the gains made by humanity were sowing the seeds of our destruction......

    I put this thread under politics because every human on the planet will be affected by the looming disaster of climate change.

    Here is the first Track narrated by Richard Burton.
