    TL, I agree entirely. It peeves me to see and hear various commentators, some qualified to comment, others not, using short term changes to support their assertions of AGW. Events such as droughts in Australia have in the past been linked to El-Nino events, and now the IOD, but where it gets interesting is when the reconstructions of the historic occurrences of both systems is laid alongside what is known of our own variations in the weather over time, it looks as if whatever we may be experiencing now is not so much extraordinary, but consistent with longer term natural variations that can be traced back centuries through geological evidence.
