I don't believe lithium is in the liquid metal battery however I can't say for sure. They key to that battery is having the mediums in liquid form rather than solid form which probably excludes lithium. The original magnesium/antimony versions used those two elements as the anode and cathode in liquid mode. It appears that the chemistry might have changed somewhat but the battery ( storage device ) still uses liquid electrodes of more common materials.
Sadoway makes the point about ' dirt cheap ' materials and uses the comparison to the lithium price out to 2030. So, I'm guessing they're not using Lithium in the stationary battery.
It appears that they are playing around with other battery types however ( mobile ) such as the failed GE Duracell model so I'm sure they will still be experimenting with it somewhere.
