There are a few climate change types aroundhere. So we have a chat:
Me: “At what temperature do you think dryleaf matter spontaneously combusts?”
Them: Blank look.
Me: “35C?”
Them: “No.”
Me: “45C?”
Them: “No.”
Me: “55C?”
Them: “No.”
Me: “65C?”
Them: “Possibly?”
Me: “OK, enough. Studies have shown thetemperature required for dry leaf matter to spontaneously combust is at least200C. That being the case, did the bush just burst into flames all on it own?”
Them: Blank look.
This is interesting: http://joannenova.com.au/2020/01/black-friday-1939-victoria-45-degrees-c-71-deaths-leaping-balls-of-fire-and-lit-by-the-hand-of-
It is not all about climate change; facts are the bulk are caused by arsonists who should be dealt with in an appropriate way as capital offence with the death penalty non recourse or alternatively as in most of Asia; on the spot no mercy .
Arsonists
More than 180alleged arsonists have been arrested since the start of the bushfire season, with 29 blazes deliberately lit in the Shoalhaven region of southeast NSW in just three months.
The Shoalhavenfires were lit between July and September last year, with Kempsey recording 27deliberately lit fires, NSW Bureau of Crime and Statistics and Research datashows.
Police arrested 183people for lighting bushfires across Queensland, NSW, Victoria, South Australiaand Tasmania in the past few months. NSW police data shows 183 people have beencharged or cautioned for bushfire-related offences since November 8, and 24arrested for deliberately starting bushfires.
Queensland policesay 101 people have been picked up for setting fires in the bush, 32 adults and69 juveniles.
In Tasmania, wherefires have sprung up in the north of the state and outside Hobart, five werecaught setting fire to vegetation. Victoria reported 43 charged for 2019.
MelbourneUniversity associate professor Janet Stanley said arsonists were typicallyyoung males, aged 12 to 24, or older men in their 60s.
“There is no oneprofile, but generally they seem to have a background of disadvantage, atraumatic upbringing and often have endured neglect and abuse as a child,”Professor Stanley said. “They are often kids not succeeding in school, or theyhave left school early and are unemployed. The boundaries between accidentallyand purposefully are unclear because many arsonists don’t plan on causing thecatastrophe that occurs. Often there is not an intention to cause chaos and thepenalties for accidentally lighting a fire are far less than purposefullylighting a fire.”
SwinburneUniversity professor James Ogloff said about 50 per cent of bushfires were litby firebugs and impending fire seasons excited them. “They’re interested inseeing fire, interested in setting fire and quite often the information aroundhow fires burn and accelerate excites them,” the director of the Centre forForensic Behavioural Science said.
