I should say that there are plenty of women who are amazing at independent thought.
The warrior mothers of vaccine injured children for example have a trillion times more balls than Alex and his mates.
The main point is that siding with the herd aka "the science" aka "the experts" aka "the consensus" aka "the peer-reviewed literature" is purely a defence mechanism. In the presence of uncertainty, weak(minded) people *must* herd and they tie themselves into knots rationalizing it because, for them, logic and facts *cannot* overwhelm the need to feel safe.
