Thermal coal contracts are currently trading at $120USD for November. That gives a value of about $186 AUD. This is down from only 7 weeks ago where they were fetching a more lucrative $260 AUD.
Coal miner margins are being squeezed, albeit still higher than they were a few years ago, but much less money being made today than 18 months ago.
