Alex of course we are on your wave length but right now many countries will be freezing ..some to death in Europe this winter without the coal powered electricity going into their homes ..these power stations inject water and powdered coal and fire it to generate enormous temperatures to generate the steam to drive the steam turbines....in most cases the coal and water are completely burned to form little ash and any fumes are captured in huge filter systems ...in many of these countries they do not have gas, cannot afford oil and Nuclear Energy may come in the form of small modular atomic reactors to replace the coal powered stations eventually but this change over will take time.
Most countries are trying to reduce their carbon footprint ..Not long ago Ukraine was begging Australia for coal..temperatures in Ukraine go well below 0 degrees centigrade during the winter months ..and yes children and old people will die without heat .
I remember as a child the coal miners went on strike in the UK when UK mined its own coal and that winter temperatures got down to sub zero and many people died..today many people will be in the same boat without coal..
What can we do in circumstances like this .I don't think cutting coal deliveries is the answer...change will come but slowly.
We should remember Smelting iron ore to get steel uses metallic coal and countries burn a lot to generate the massive wind turbines all over Europe and pollute ..and the solar panels also use lots of energy to generate the electricity for the industrial processes to produce them.
Biden in the US wants to move from 3% of US power produced by solar panels to 30% produced by solar panels...that will require a lot of energy and a lot of pollution ...to go green..so Alex it seems we are damned if we do try and reduce our carbon foot print and we are damned if we don't reduce our car on foot print!!! The world faces some major decisions in the years ahead...Now change will come but we are talking of many years.
    All the best to All
