Whilst solar and wind can last for up to 30+ years now (20 years is on the lower end of the range) Hydro electric dams can last for over 100 years.

Vast amount of arable land for the solar farms?

Its a shame we dont have vast areas that receive lots of sun where almost nothing lives and any disadvantage would be extremely minor? Can you think of any land in Australia we could use? its a real doozy??

That would create a lot of jobs for people in the outback.

You realise new technologies always cost more than the old ones? It was triple the price to buy a new blu ray DVD player than it was to buy a VCR player. It was $15 to buy a 1G USB drive in the year 2000. You could get a box of 10 floppy disks for $10 at the same time.

Your argument that something costs more means we shouldn't do it is not a great argument. If that were the case, we'd be stuck with the technology of a century ago. Cars cost more than horses, do you ride a horse around town? Of course not! (probably).

So whilst I dont even agree with your premise that solar is more expensive (initially, yes, lets say for a household an initial outlay of $7500). The average household will recoup this within 6 years. That's better than a 12% annually on your money. And that's if electricity prices stayed the same for the 6 years (which they went up about 50% in the same period for the last 6 years).

In fact its such a good investment, even WHC are putting up solar panels to reduce their costs.

I'd be tired of arguing with me too if I were you. It takes a lot of energy to be wrong all the time.
