I think there are plenty of conservatives who can acknowledge the science. In Britain for instance conservatives have been in power for years, and they don't show the same tendency for science-denial and flat earthism that you see in some quarters in Australia and the US, and now Brazil too.
I think it takes a particular type of ideologue to rejoice in rejecting science. I think generally they're of the evangelical happy clapper type.
