Nah not even close - solar cheaper by a long way ; coal fired generation is only useful to provide a baseload at the moment and with the introduction of many more massive batteries the base load will be able to be covered by wind ; solar; hydro ; batteries and gas. ( could add nuclear but unlikely in Australia) Coal fired generation is pretty useless to cover spikes as takes too long to increase the output so they must have DSL/ Gas generation as backup which is the most expensive cost of power. Coal generators must be run at a minimum level at all times even when the power is not required which is really inefficient. Also most banks are de-funding coal in all forms as they perceive it will be future stranded assets.
