    It is a strange thing that Trump appears to have swung his ideology to the hard Right, and I agree a lot of it is probably due to latching onto the GOP ticket which he had a chance of winning.

    I doubt he will be surprising us with any left-wing inclinations though. I don't think his policy ideas were ever particularly deeply considered by him and were more likely used as opportunities to give interviews, increase his media profile and soften his public image.

    Trump has shown he simply doesn't have the capacity to grapple with complex policy ideas (he honestly makes Tony Abbott look like an intellectual), and I expect him to rubber-stamp the GOP's pre-exiting agenda except in those instances where it would create a large enough backlash (whereupon he will probably just put up a weak faux-protest but sign off anyway).
