The market based system to deal with CC is a pigovian tax, the idea being that with a higher cost of burning fossil fuels companies look to ways of reducing the fossil fuels they use in order to pay less taxes.
We have already come a long way in adopting renewable energy and like it or not we will have to continue down that path, after all fossil fuels are a finite resource
