Butcherboy,
I am not part of a 'fossil fuel lobby'. I doubt any poster in this forum is.
Identifying your own views with Galileo to try to claim underdog status is just a spin game.
To me the important lesson from 'Climate Gate' is that scientists should honour the traditions of science. They should be willing to disclose the data and have their views debated. They should not be defensive.
Unfortunately scientists have become involved in advocacy, propoganda and politics. They should have left that to others.
Similarly to priests, judges and policemen who dabble in politics they can't then claim the shield of their profession. It is irrelevant how much they believe in their cause.
