You might want to educate yourself around the partial share trading platforms. These partial share platforms allow trades below the previous minimum order size. They have percentage based fees that while sometimes high on a percentage basis are tiny on small trades. Sometimes the accounts are set up for kids and the investments made are kid pocket money sized trades. For example they might get $5 or $10 and choose a few different shares to spend it on.

I didn't press buy after setting up this order but I as you can see if the order was executed it would have had a 3 cent transaction fee.


At the other end of the scale you can do larger trades and the transaction fee is capped at $15/trade (on that particular platform. Capped trade fees obviously vary depending on the platform used)
