Clive Palmer Rolls up to parliament

THIS is how Clive Palmer rolls.

The billionaire MP has been chauffeured to Parliament House in an elegant grey Rolls Royce - before declaring he's here to represent the unrepresented 98 per cent of Australians.

Van Morrison blaring, Mr Palmer stepped out of the luxury vehicle, quickly distracting the media pack that was talking to Labor's Brendan O'Connor about jobs figures.

The car was his way of trying to pay his own way, Mr Palmer said.

"Members of parliament really don't need comm (Commonwealth) cars that cost the taxpayer a lot of money. That money could be better spent giving it to pensioners," he told reporters.

If they didn't own a Rolls, they could catch a taxi, he added.

When asked if arriving in such an ostentatious car was appropriate, Mr Palmer said all Australians - regardless of race, nature and wealth - could be members of parliament.

"But I would say only two per cent of Australians have lobbyists in Canberra, the other 98 per cent are unrepresented," he said.

"I am here to represent them."

Mr O'Connor later said he had no hard feelings about the distraction from his message, saying "Clive's Clive".

"If he wants to present that way, of course, that's entirely up to him."
