Excellent post Fred. I agree with your comments re intellectuals. Long an insult in this country that values sports people over those who succeed with their brains such as scientists, writers etc. The right wing in this country has little to be proud of in terms of their contribution to reasoned argument.

Clive James has no credibility whatsoever. A pathetic old man drooling over young women who has sold out all of his principles for the Great God of Public Adulation. He purports to understand Autralians, in fact trades on being Australian, but this Australian for one suggests that his knowledge of present day Australia is no better than any other expat who flits into Australia once or twice a year for a day or two if that. ie very little.
