The mining of coal and iron ore etc is never going to be stopped in this country. If fact , it is only going to keep picking up.

The sensationalism of this being a go or stop scenario is just ridiculous.

Bob Brown, for all his lunacy, doesn't want mining stopped in this country. He may want to destroy many things but even he knows we need the tax dollars.

But it was proven during the GFC, that mining didn't save us from the worst part of it. The amount of jobs dropped by the miners was incredible, as a percentage of the mining workforce.They were the first to crumble. The stimulus package, like it or hate it, helped Australia through it.

With the sheer amount of investment in mining coming through in the next few years, it makes all the rhetoric about the carbon and mining taxes going to ruin the whole industry as completely fanciful. If the GST didn't ruin Australia, these taxes won't either.

It is about time some sensibility was levelled in this debate.

And poor old Clive is certainly not on that playing field.
