Clive Palmer is one smart man.

Watched him on 7:30 report tonight and I thought he handled Uhlmann quite well.

You should remember he personally owns the only Australian refinery processing imported ore. He bought it from BHP at arm's length [cheap] because they were about to shut it down. Who is going to deny him his profits?

But the CO2 tax may close it yet, just as the shadow of that tax was the last straw for Xtrata who are closing the copper smelter in Mt Isa and their refinery in Townsville. Refineries are NOT mining businesses. They are "factories" employing skilled workers, exactly the type of jobs a serious g'ment would want to keep.
