We should listen to the ABC and close the camps on Manus and Nauru. They are inhumane.
All genuine refugees in the camps should be allowed to settle in Australia. There are only a couple of thousand in the camps and together with their families who should then be allowed to arrive under our family reunion programe would number less than 10,000 in total.
The following genuine refugees should not have to suffer the same fate but be allowed to settle directly without being held in detention. In order to stop deaths at sea our navy should pick them up from Indonesia and take them directly to accommodation in Australia.
In this way we could fulfill our obligations under the UN convention to allow any genuine refugee who wishes to enter Australia.
