Sorry to be negative, I was just trying to put a dampener on posters saying the fish would be worth a million dollars each, and calculating the predicted windfalls.

Captive Southern Bluefin have massive quality issues. Their colour can change rapidly whilst being freighted. They really need to be fed very expensive food to gain good fat and colour (foods like squid and oily fish).

With a high $AUD this is next to impossible. Kingfish is a lot hardier (and cheaper).

The problem is not the quantity of SBT available to the Japanese market (evident especially at this time of year when it is being drowned by cheap super fresh SBT).

But by the difficulty and expense in getting quality into the existing stock.

The obsession with conquering the lifecycle really achieves nothing. The price of high quality feed is the real issue.
