As far as SpringTree and venture capitalism- VC funding can take different forms but theirs was particularly onerous. Giving them shares each month that they could trade on market right away did a lot to keep the sp volatile and some would say below what it should have been trading at ( as witnessed when they were shown the door).
A more agreeable VC deal would have been/ could be a more typical one where the VC fund gets shares but they are kept in escrow for a year or more.
