i would think that the term market moving sideways would be referring to it moving up and down in a certain range. so zinc might move between 1.40 and 1.70 for 2 months and we might look back on that as a period where it went 'sideways'.
However it was infact moving up and down. perhaps when a sideways trend has been established then these markets will settle down a bit.
