The only way you will only come close to closing the so called gap is by force. By force I mean "MADE TO", made to get a job, made to stay in that job, made to get up EVERY morning and go to that job, the only alternative is to lose the dole and receive food and clothing vouchers, lose the right to "hang out" at public places, curfew after 6pm. It is really quiet simple and all politicians know this as well as the so called aboriginal elders. With productive work comes self satisfaction, self respect and above all respect from others. The way it is now the aboriginal people want respect without giving it, want money without working for it, want everything the white man has without the responsibility, the reason they have this attitude is because there is an element in our society that have told them "this is your country and what is in it is yours" The real world is that Australia was settled by the British and perhaps the aboriginal people should be grateful for that and not by other colonial powers around at the time. They had been here for 40-60,000 years, they certainly were not doing much with the place over that time and absurd to say otherwise.
