CLOUGH IN JOINT VENTURE WITH SAIPEM HAS BEEN SELECTED AS THE ENGINEERING, PROCUREMENT AND CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR FOR PERDAMAN’S UREA PLANT IN KARRATHA

Clough in a 50/50 joint venture with Saipem, is proud to announce they have been selected as the EPC contractor for the development of Perdaman Industries’ urea plant on the Burrup Peninsula approximately eight kilometres from Dampier and twenty kilometres northwest of Karratha on the north-west coastline of Western Australia.

The Joint Venture’s scope of work includes engineering, construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning of the ammonia and urea plant including EPC for all site civils, process plant, utilities, urea handling, storage and loadout, storage facilities and site buildings. FID is expected in 2021.

Peter Bennett, Clough CEO and Managing Director said: “We are very excited to be part of this milestone project. During the construction phase, this world class facility will create about 2000 jobs in Western Australia and will be an important development for the Australian resources industry, significantly reducing the nations reliance on fertilizer imports.”

He added: “Saipem has an enviable track record in delivering Urea projects around the world that when combined with Clough’s Australian engineering and construction expertise, creates a capability that is unparalleled.

”The facility will consist of the urea fertiliser plant and related facilities with a capacity of 2 million tonnes of urea per annum. The facility includes a water treatment plant, a power plant (100MW), as well as urea storage, loading and unloading facilities. A closed conveyer will transport the urea 7 kilometres directly to the Pilbara Ports Authority for shipping to local and offshore markets, with 50 to 100 shiploads expected per year.

The Project has been strongly supported by The Western Australian Government, by giving it a state significant project status reflecting the major boost it will provide to the Western Australian economy, generating an average of 2000 jobs during the three-year construction phase and 200 permanent jobs during the operation phase.
