Cairn Energy announced this week yet another positive drilling result following the completion of the Fan South-1 well in Senegal. This is the ninth straight well in the Sangomar Deep Offshore block, drilled by the group, that has hit hydrocarbons. The Fan South well has been a long awaited follow up to the initial Fan well, which revived the recent exploration rush back in 2014. This well confirms the presence of a second Cretaceous reservoir in addition to the original Fan. It also gives further confidence to the reservoir quality, which was one of the concerns of the initial Fan well.
