the elephant in the room is the fact that many people find it acceptable to use a 1500-2000 kilogram mass of fossil fueled metal to move one, maybe two 80kg human(s)....
Emissions taxes don't fix the root cause or reduce impact to planet, just provide more cash for the politicians to squander.
simply adding tax on tax, hasn't worked to date, multiple existing examples of that in Oz.
Not a fan of introducing further taxes to an already complicated system without first simplifying the system.
That, and as a voter, I'm not keen on the idea of rural residents/farmers having to pay much more compared to the city folk who have regular public transport as an option- lets add a tax to the system based on property and asset wealth - that should even it up.
Or just buy a letterbox and shelf company in singapore to pay no more then 20% tax and 7.5% GST....
