Since the GFC and the dramatic lift in oil price, CO2 emissions and
fuel economy has eclipsed the more immediate health impacts of
exhaust emissions. Low CO2 emissions (which mean fuel economy)
have been rewarded doubly in Europe; firstly lower rego fees and
lower fuel costs. These two variables and not NOX gases or particulate
emissions have driven diesel car sales since 2007-08.
