The reason uranium was originally chosen by the yanks over thorium is because thorium reactors do not produce material for nuclear weapons. It was a military decision.

I don't want to get into a slinging match over qualifications. Many HC posters may have no formal qualifications, but are very knowledgeable. But for the record I have several degrees, including one in science.
