You'll find, if you look into it, that Salinger was never 'Chief Scientist'.

You'll find, if you look into it, that there is a need to correct the data to allow for factors like site changes, instrument changes, changes in the time of day of reading the temp, to adjust for urban heat island effect and to allow for other factors such as orbital decay for satellite instruments and different methods of taking sea temperatures. All of which changes affect the results.

Every single University in the world involved in determining an accurate record of temperatures does in fact support these methods. As does the World Meteorological Organisation and every national meteorological organisation on the planet. The original data is kept but reliable temperature records are provided by temperature datasets that apply those necessary adjustments.

Salinger was disciplined and eventually sacked from his job because he repeatedly spoke beyond his authority in the organisation he was working for. He was sacked because he was outspoken about the risks of climate change, beyond the official position of the organisation he worked for and to the discomfort of the then conservative government owners of that organisation. It was the Green Party that was most upset by his sacking.
