The broader coal industry will be seeking an extraction (pardon the pun) for the rates to be recalibrated and for the ALP who will protest, this ridiculous policy has caused serious reputational damage to Queensland. Privately the ALP will acknowledge the overreach has impacted their vote. The seats lost in Townsville and Mackay reflect that. The need for certainty in the resources sector in Queensland is both urgent and can't be deferred. There are no meaningful projects on the horizon for Queensland and from a budget standpoint, treasury will have need the revenue if spending promises remain elevated.
