African Rainbow, Assore, Exxaro: South Africa Equity Preview

Aug. 14 (Bloomberg) -- The following companies may have unusual price changes in South Africa trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses, and share prices are from the previous close.

The FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index added 113.29, or 0.4 percent, to 27,035.65, the highest level since July 31.

African Rainbow Minerals Ltd. (ARI SJ): The miner of coal and minerals in South Africa said fiscal full-year earnings per share rose as much as threefold. African Rainbow climbed 13.50 rand, or 6.3 percent, to 228.50.

Assore Ltd. (ASR SJ): The owner of half of South African manganese producer Assmang Ltd. said fiscal full-year profit per share increased as much as fourfold as it ``continued to benefit from the boom in base mineral markets.'' Assore rose 35 rand, or 5.3 percent, to 695.

Exxaro Resources Ltd. (EXX SJ): South Africa's fourth- biggest coal producer said first-half profit rose 48 percent as coal prices increased. Exxaro lost 2.71 rand, or 2.7 percent, to 98.49 rand.

Shares or American depositary receipts of the following South African companies closed as follows:

Anglo American Plc (AAUK US) gained 5.3 percent to $26.86. AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU US) rose 5.5 percent to $28.92. BHP Billiton Ltd. (BBL US) added 2.9 percent to $58.74. DRDGold Ltd. (DROOY US) jumped 8.6 percent to $5.52. Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI US) climbed 5.9 percent to $9.57. Harmony Gold Mining Co. (HMY US) rose 6.1 percent to $8.24. Impala Platinum Holdings Co. (IMPUY US) added 1.3 percent to $27.30. Sappi Ltd. (SPP US) rose 0.4 percent to $11.63. Sasol Ltd. (SSL US) was up 3.4 percent at $51.18. Telkom South Africa Ltd. (TKG US) fell 0.3 percent to $70.45.
