    Why is it in the energy debate in this country that the fundamentals are so rarely discussed?

    Aside from CO2 emissions, there is the the cost of water, which has already sent electricity futures prices skyrocketing and now coal prices are on the rise as well. It would not surprise me if coal prices followed the route of other commodities, and become an uncompetitive method of generating power here. Perhaps better suited as an export industry to countries that have only worse alternatives (such as dirtier coal)?
