Here is the post by Hard Man on the MNM thread. It has reference to presentation about brown coal upgrade methods that mentions Evergreen at slide 24. Their method is just one of many methods that exist.

    'About Event

The Workshop will be held at the Stamford Plaza Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on 19 and 20 April 2012 immediately following the Second International Industry Symposium on the Sustainable Use of Low Rank Coal, to be held at the nearby Grand Hyatt Hotel Melbourne on 16 to 18 April 2012. The Symposium on Low Rank Coals is being organised by the Department of Primary Industries, State Government of Victoria, with support from IEA CCC and the Electric Power Research Institute. Anyone wishing to attend the Symposium should visit the Department od Industries Website.'

The scramble to be the Victorian Govt 'chosen one' brown coal upgrade and infrastructure provider is about to heat up dramatically.

There are dozens of players in the brown coal upgrade pack, from backyard scale dreamers through to global powers like exergen and the German RWE.

This summary from the Victorian DPI sets out plenty of them.

It seems clear that RWE and exergen are the big dogs in terms of having funding to match their ambition. They also get the most detailed coverage by the DPI in this publication.

MNM has 2-3 billion tonnes of Victorian brown coal in BM about to be JORC'd, and 569 sq km of tenements wrapped around the southern end of the LV preserved zone.

MNM is in the fortunate position of not needing to worry about how our technology may fare in what will be a brutal competition for Government favours.

Whoever wins the day has to come to us eventually to tie up our coal and to prevent their rivals getting enough of a resource to justify going head to head with them.

Like fine red wine, MNM's coal is getting better with age. We can happily wait for this stoush to play out.

The fact that it is all playing out NOW is a massive win for us.

On the other hand, small Australian tech players who lose out to the big boys in the coming Victorian brown coal carve up (as they inevitably will) face oblivion don't they?
