Low emissions coal technologies commonly refers to the various approaches used to reduce emissions from coal powered electricity generation. These technologies include:

coal drying - reducing the moisture content and designing equipment for burning brown coal at these lower moisture contents
coal gasification - a technology that dries and gasifies brown coal in an integrated process and generates electricity using combustible gases, including hydrogen, from the gas produced,
carbon capture and storage (CCS)
